Update on all of our lives..........

Well it's been since Feb 2011 since my last blog.. WOW.. What all has been going on?? ALOT.. LOL so here is update on all of us since Feb.. Get your glasses and coffee ready to go..

Update on Tanner: In March we went back to specialist so had told us that Tanner's vision is progressive, when it changes it will get worse not better, but they would do testing. He went for many tests that showed he is color blind and detail is hard for him to see. We saw a low vision specialist who gave the school lots of pointers for them to use devises for him at school. Which is he currently learning how to use a magnifer for his papers and using a marnicular for seeing things far distance. Sorry this is just a short and sweet update on him. But things are the same he is getting better about telling us things he can't see without being embarassed. Its a change for us all but we are all adjusting!

What's new with Tatem??? She just started cheering at a new gym in Cleburne and is loving it!! We haven't started competitions yet but she is having a blast practicing with her friends. She is in 4th Grade and doing great. She is involved in Choir this year and also has a job before and after school helping the librian shelf books.

What's new with Tanner?? Other than vision stuff, he is in 1st grade we held him back and this has been the best decision he has the same teacher and she is a blessing. She knows all of Tanner's vision needs so she is on top of everything. He is doing great with school and all the people helping him succeed are AWESOME.

What's new with Travis and Tamara?? We celebrated our 11th wedding anniversary in March. We didn't do anything fancy but that's ok. Out of everything we have been through in the last couple of years we have proved that we have a strong marriage and I am proud of that. Travis was working in Houston, but was able to start working in Ft Worth as of March and is still local as of right now. Anything change with the railroad LOL.. And lastly but certainly not least.. I accepted a job last summer to start working for the school for the school year. For the first time I feel like I am exactly where I need to be job wise. My calling was to be in education and while I am not a teacher, I am the teacher aide for pre-k but it is just a good.. I love my JOB!! I get paid to have fun and teach little people PLUS it's a big bonus to see my own little people everyday.

So all in all 2011 started off rocky but we are taking it as it comes and are coming to terms with everything as it is handed to us. We are very blessed to have a happy, HEALTHY family!!

Tanner's Vision

On our last blog I had said something about saying a prayer for Tanner, well know that we have told everyone what is going on I decided it's the time to blog ALL of it on the table! So here it goes!!

In November I took Tanner for his regular eye appointment his doctor (which is a new doctor for us) said that he wanted a specialist to look at his eyes because he wasn't comfortable diagnosing Tanner. I made the appointment quickly, but really didn't think it was too serious.

In December I took Tanner to the eye specialist who is a very nice lady. The staff was good doing all the testing, dilating his eyes. He even got to watch Finding Nemo while his eyes were dilated. HE THOUGHT THAT WAS SO COOL. The specialist came in looking at his eyes asking him what he can see etc... And let me just say getting a 6 year old to sit in rooms for over hour then cooperate is THE HARDEST THING EVER.. But Tanner is a trooper and he cooperated!! At the end of the exam she is telling me about his vision. Basically here's what it comes down to in 2009 he was 20/40 with a negative 4 in one eye. In 2010 20/70. Dr. Ranelle had said that if he keeps losing vision this way he will have to learn Braille by this time next year. Well of course anything she said after that I did not hear!! I know that sounds horrible and what kind of mom would not listen. It's just so shocking to have someone tell you that the sweet little boy who is only 6 years old may have that possibility of not seeing!! HEARTBREAKING is the only way I can describe that feeling! So after this appointment I naturally call Travis we talked about it but we really didn't bring it up for a while. I guess you could say we both knew it was there but didn't want to deal with it right then and there. The Christmas Break for school had approached so we just didn't think about the vision thing.

In January, school had started back up and the school nurse called me about Tanner's vision. They have called about million times since beginning of school year to say he can't see board they are concerned etc etc.. Well when she called that is when I told her about the specialist had said. At that point I had to come to terms with what was going on. And NO I didn't come to terms overnight and still have my days. Anyways I had called the doctors office to get the exact name of what Tanner has, surgery options.. He has Myopia Degenerative Retina, basically the Myopia is the nearsightedness, the retina is starting to detach but isn't fully detached. There is NO surgery for a kid his age. His eyes are still developing and growing so we have "some" hope. And I did have that hope until I got a call from the School District Vision Teacher she said that Tanner is now a 20/80 which means he has already lost some more vision. This week or the following week the school will be introducing Braille to him. With that said they are going to have him in the Vision Impaired Program at school. He will still be in classroom setting he just has help seeing. That was the hardest phone call to take because it became more of a reality! The vision teacher will be going to the doctor appointment with us so she can help me understand what Tanner has. I want to understand more of what he can see and what I have been told not sure how true this is: Get a piece of construction paper and poke a hole with a pen and that is what Tanner can see.

Tanner's appointment is in March 7th. This will be a very busy day for him because he has his pediatrician appointment and eye specialist appointment the same day! Please keep the prayers coming as we are not sure what the future is holding for our family!

UPDATE... AND RINGING IN 2011

So I haven't posted since Sept and well let's face it so much has happened so I will start from Sept and work my way to where we are currently..

At the end of Sept I decided to go back to work back to the same company however Gm has bought them out so I am now Full Time Employee. This is bitter sweet for me, because nothing is more important to me than my family and I LOVE taking good care of them! Anyways the kids have there set schedules and we are very fortunate that no daycare is involved!!

In December we got some news regarding Tanner that we are not yet ready to announce just say a prayer for him because this young kiddo needs it! We have a road ahead of us and have prepared ourselves for whatever road we may be lead to.

At the beginning of November Travis came home to work close to our house! This was honestly the best timing and it was so great to all be under 1 roof! He worked nights, I work days so the kids were always taken care of by one of us! And that alone means the world to me! Well at the end of December Travis got bumped (good ol' railroad term) out of Fort Worth so HAPPY NEW YEAR TO US.. January he headed back to Houston!

I think this just about sums up the last quarter for 2010 for us! I went back to work, Travis came home, got some disappointing news and are not sure what road we are headed to and then Travis went back to Houston!!

As we are preparing ourselves for 2011 I got a phone call from the kids school Tatem had a hard time last year and struggeled with the great help of great teachers she is now where she needs to be and is ON GRADE LEVEL!! This was such a good thing to hear I cried!! Yes I know! Travis will be working in Houston for the time being! Tatem has many cheer competitions coming up and we are wishing her the best of Luck! As for Tanner we are holding off on sports this season! But he is turning 7 next month and it is so hard to believe WHERE HAS THE TIME GONE?? I have had his baby book out because it's getting that time to write my annuall letter to him. He has wanted to look at it everynight and I love showing it to him. Yeah try explaining a umbilical cord to a 6 almost 7 year old NOT EASY!! LOL.. For Tanner's birthday I got him and Travis tickets to Monster Jam-- he loves Monster Trucks so I am really excited that they are getting to go!

Life is funny sometimes we aren't' ever sure what will happen or why it will happen. I have learned in the last 2 years that I just take it as it is given because EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON!!!
